Over 200,000 websites use Magento 1 – but time is running out!
If you’re one of the many businesses running an eCommerce site on Magento 1, you’re probably aware that Magento have announced support will no longer be offered after June 2020. As this date gets closer, companies are starting the process of moving to alternative eCommerce platforms to ensure that their business is not disrupted.
Now is the time to act
A successful migration to a new eCommerce platform can take up to 6 months. It’s therefore vital that businesses who use Magento 1 decide on a new eCommerce platform as soon as possible – to ensure that they can carry on trading and that the security of their data is not compromised.
After June 2020 as well as withdrawing support, there will be no further updates, security patches or extensions for Magento 1 so it will no longer be possible to be up to date with the latest customer and security requirements.
This could put your website at risk of being compromised, and your customers’ data at risk too – meaning you could be in breach of data protection legislation. Plus if your website uses modules to transact efficiently, performance issues will soon appear.
What about Magento 2?
It’s important to note that Magento 1 and Magento 2 are totally different platforms and upgrading to Magento 2 is a big financial investment. Whatever you decide, you’re going to need to move to a whole new system – so it’s well worth taking time to look at the variety of eCommerce solutions available to you and choose the right one for your business and your budget.
You may want to take the opportunity to enhance your website with features that were unavailable on Magento 1, including upgraded B2B functionality with customised pricing and promotions, upsell and cross-sell functionality, and multi-channel integration including Amazon and eBay.
